Kone Won A Contract For The Lusail Light Rail Transport System

17 October 2016 – Doha, QATAR – Kone has won an order for 139 elevators, escalators and autowalks for a transportation project in Lusail, currently under construction.

In line with the vision of Lusail, the Lusail Light Rail Transit (LLRT) network will serve the residents of the city by providing an environmentally-friendly mode of transportation that will not only connect destinations within Lusail, but also to Doha by way of the Doha Metro.

Developed by Qatar Rail, the new sustainable transport system is expected to accommodate the 250,000 inhabitants of Lusail and serve 40,000 daily users. The network will comprise 10km of underground track, four main tram lines, and ground level and elevated tracks, along with passenger stations.

As part of the deal, KONE will install 49 elevators, 82 escalators and 8 horizontal moving walkways.

“We are extremely honoured to have won this project,” says Mark Bayyari, managing director for Qatar at KONE. “With our solid understanding of the passenger requirements in the public transport sector and our eco-efficient equipment, we look forward to ensuring a smooth and seamless transit experience for the commuters.”
